    UPSC invites applications for Combined Medical Services Examination

    UPSC invites applications for Combined Medical Services Examination 2024, 2025 & 2026 for medicos. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced application for Combined Medical Services Examination 2025. The application has to be filled online on UPSC’s official website (www.upsc.gov.in).

    The candidate should be an MBBS graduate and maximum age limit is 32 years. The examination consist of two parts Part A is Computer Based Examination which has two papers each of 250 marks, Paper I have General Ability, General Medicine and Paediatrics while Paper II consists of Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Preventive & Social Medicine. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer. The candidates have to attempt both the papers in 2 hours each.

    The Part B is the Personality Test of 100 marks; a candidate is called for Personality Test on successful passing of Computer Based Examination. The Personality Test conducted to test a candidate’s intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgement and alertness of mind, ability of social cohesion, integrity of character, initiative and capability for leadership.

    Age Limit for CMS Exam

    Below 32 years as on 1st January of the year of Examination i.e. the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1987.

    The upper Age-limit is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and some other categories, as notified by the Commission from time to time.

    Educational Qualifications for CMS Exam

    • A pass in the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination.
    • Candidates appearing in the final MBBS Examination are also eligible to apply but such candidates who qualify the written part of the examination will be         required to submit proof of passing the written and practical parts of final MBBS Examination along with their detailed application form to be filled up at that         stage.
    • A candidate who has not completed compulsory rotating internship is also eligible for admission to the examination but on qualifying the written examination he         will be appointed only after he has completed the compulsory rotating internship.

    Nationality

    (1) a Citizen of India, or
    (2) a subject of Nepal, or
    (3) a subject of Bhutan, or

    (4) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or

    5) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia,         Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

    Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

    A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Combined Medical Services Examination comprises of three steps of examining the candidates:

Candidates who qualify in the Computer based examination will be called for Interview/Personality Test to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The Interview/Personality Test will carry 100 marks.

The interview for Personality Test will be intended to serve as a supplement to the Computer based examination for testing the General Knowledge and ability of the candidates in the fields of their academic study and also in the nature of a personality test to assess the candidate’s intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment and alertness of mind, ability for social cohesion, integrity of character, initiative and capability for leadership.

Q. Can a BDS qualified apply for UPSC CMS?
A. No, the BDS qualified students & candidates are not eligible to appear in the UPSC CMS exam. The education qualification required to fill the CMS application is MBBS degree pass. Even there is no mention of MBBS or equivalent.
Q. What is the age limit criteria for writing UPSC CMS Exam?
A. There is no lower age limit for this exam but the upper age limit restricted to 32 (Thirty Two) years. The upper age limit is relaxed for the reserved category candidates and the applicants from the Jammu and Kashmir.
Q. What is the final mode of UPSC CMS written exam?
A. The UPSC CMS exam is divided in two-stages. The first stage exam is the Computer based test (CBT). The CBT is conducted to the designated centres of UPSC and the answer key is released by UPSC after the final result of the CMS examination.
Q. What is the application form fee for the CMS exam?
A. The application fees for the written exam are Rs. 200. The Female candidates, reserved category candidates and the candidates with disabilities are not required to pay the fees.
Q. What is the minimum percentage for filling the CMS application form?
A. No, there is no such minimum percentage in MBBS degree required to fill the application form of UPSC CMS exam. The only educational qualification required for the CMS exam is MBBS degree with any percentage.
Q. Any negative marking in UPSC CMS written exam?
A. Yes, there is negative marking in the CMS written exam. The quantum of negative marking is one by three (1/3).
Q. Every year approx. How many candidates fill the UPSC CMS application form?
A. Approximately 39166 MBBS Candidates had filled the UPSC CMS application form and only 18183 appeared in the written exam in 2019.
Q. Do they publish the answer key for the UPSC CMS written exam?
A. Yes, the answer key of the CBD is released by UPSC after the final result of the CMS exam is published.
